This training is part 6 of 8 for the training series that will provide APPs the additional 16 hours to meet the requirements to obtain a Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) X-Waiver Certificate that will allow them to prescribe to more than 30 patients.

In accordance with 2021 changes in practice guidelines for administering buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are required to apply to the Drug Enforcement Agency for a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine. In order to treat more than 30 patients, APPs must complete 24 hours of specialized training —an eight-hour Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) X-Waiver training course plus an additional 16 hours of training. Until now, the additional 16 hours has primarily been available through online, pre-recorded modules.
Boston Medical Center’s OBAT TTA is proud to announce a no-cost, live training series that will provide APPs the additional 16 hours to meet these requirements. This training was developed by and for APPs.
The 6th session in this series is titled "Substance Use in Adolescents, Older Adults and Persons with Brain Injuries.".
Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), and Physician Assistants
Justin is a Clinical Nurse Educator for Boston Medical Center's OBAT TTA team, with specific expertise in infectious disease and their co-occurrence with substance use disorders, community outreach, and harm reduction. He serves as an expert on OBAT TTA's SUD Care Continuum ECHO team and sits on the item writing committee for the Addictions Nursing Certification Board. Justin has dedicated his career to caring for patients living with HIV/AIDS and suffering from substance use disorders across the continuum of care. He is an AIDS Certified Registered Nurse, a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse, and a member of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Justin received his BSN from Northeastern University in 2013 and received his MSN, with a focus in nursing education, from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in 2020.
Annie Potter, MSN, MPH, NP, CARN-APAnnie is a Nurse Practitioner at Boston Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. Annie educates and supports health care providers on best practices in the treatment of substance use disorders and serves as the Medical Director for the Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO. Prior to joining BMC, Annie practiced at a community health center in Baltimore, MD, where she established and served as the clinical lead for the city's first walk-in HIV treatment and prevention program. She is board-certified in addictions and holds specialty certifications for the treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C. Annie earned her Masters of Nursing and Masters of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Bloomberg School of Public Health, respectively.

Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (DPH/BSAS), Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS), and Boston Medical Center Office Based Addiction Treatment and Technical Assistance (BMC OBAT TTA).
