Description

The Center for Nursing Education and Testing's Item Writing Workshop is an approximately 90-minute virtual workshop in which participants will learn to write test questions for the CARN and CARN-AP certification examinations. The team will address the complete process of developing a certification examination as well as address the principles of item writing and test construction, including tips for writing good items. These skills can be used in a wide variety of situations where nursing knowledge is measured, since the principles apply to teacher-made tests in nursing education programs, continuing education programs, and staff development programs. Item writing is a unique process that combines creativity and adherence to the rules and imposed editorial standards. Participants will have a post-workshop assignment, in which they will submit five (5) of their own items - written to the standards/principles taught in the workshop - to receive a total of 3 continuing education contact hours.
