Description

Changing the Outcomes of Substance Use in Brockton series.

This session will review available medications to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders including how they work and how they can help prevent overdose. There will be discussion regarding special considerations in medication treatment in patients who have co-occurring acute and/or chronic pain and opioid use disorder.

Intended audience

HEALing Communities study healthcare staff in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

- Identify the rationale for using medications to treat opioid use disorder

- Describe effective medications for treating opioid use disorder

- Explain the unique properties of methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone. 

- List strategies to treat acute pain in persons on medications for opioid use disorder.

Accreditation information

Boston Medical Center grants 1.50 hours to all nurses who attend, complete the evaluation, and complete the post test. Boston Medical Center is approved as a provider of continuing professional development by American Nurses Association, Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Boston University School of Social Work which is authorized through the MA state board of Social Work to provide 1.50 CE Credit Hours.
