Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs) must complete 24 hours of specialized training to obtain a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine—an eight-hour MAT waiver training course plus an additional 16 hours of training. Until now, the additional 16 hours has primarily been available through online, pre-recorded modules.
Boston Medical Center’s OBAT TTA is proud to announce a new no-cost, live training series that will provide APPs the additional 16 hours to meet these requirements. This training was developed by and for APPs.
The 2nd session in this series is titled "Stigma and Motivational Interviewing." It i will be offered October 20th from 4pm-6pm ET.

Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwifes (CNM), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), and Physician Assistants
Describe three examples of stigma in the way the medical system approaches substance use disorder
Explain the importance of using medically appropriate language for substance use disorder
Utilize effective terminology when discussing substance use disorder
Define the principles of harm reduction
Describe the spirit of motivational interviewing (MI) and its four processes
Utilize patient-centered MI skills to help elicit and strengthen the internal motivation for change
Summarize how to plan for change in a MI-consistent fashion
Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (DPH/BSAS), Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS), and Boston Medical Center Office Based Addiction Treatment and Technical Assistance (BMC OBAT TTA).
