Description

Changing the Outcomes of Substance Use in Brockton series.

This session will lay the foundation for the care and treatment of patients with substance use disorders. It will review the current overdose epidemic and its particular impact in the Brockton community. It is geared at defining addiction as a disease, identifying stigma related to addiction and its impact on treatment, and recognizing evidence-based treatment for addiction.  There will be a question and answer period

HEALing Communities study healthcare staff in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Objectives

Develop a basic understanding of: 

- Substance use disorders as chronic medical conditions

- Overview of current epidemic

- Impact of stigma

- Role of medication treatment

- Role of collaborative care

Accreditation information

Boston Medical Center grants 1.50 hours to all nurses who attend, complete the evaluation, and complete the post test. Boston Medical Center is approved as a provider of continuing professional development by American Nurses Association, Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Boston University School of Social Work which is authorized through the MA state board of Social Work to provide 1.50 CE Credit Hours.
