Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs) must complete 24 hours of specialized training to obtain a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine—an eight-hour Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) X-Waiver Certificate training course plus an additional 16 hours of training. Until now, the additional 16 hours has primarily been available through online, pre-recorded modules.
Boston Medical Center’s OBAT TTA is proud to announce a no-cost, live training series that will provide APPs the additional 16 hours to meet these requirements. This training was developed by and for APPs.
The 7th session in this series is titled "Medical Considerations for People with SUD, Overdose Education, and Naloxone Rescue Kits." It will be offered on June 17th, 2021 from 7am-9am ET.
Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), and Physician Assistants
Charmaine is a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Educator for the OBAT TTA Program at Boston Medical Center with clinical expertise in caring for individuals experiencing homelessness, care transitions, and complex care coordination. She previously worked at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program as a respite care and primary care provider and has been involved in research focused on the needs of underserved populations. Charmaine is a clinician at Faster Paths to Treatment, BMC's substance use disorder urgent care center, with a full DATA2000 X-waiver. Charmaine earned her MPH in Epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health and her MSN from Boston College, with a concentration as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Andrea Caputo, DNP, FNP-BC, CARN-APAndrea is a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Educator for the OBAT TTA Program at Boston Medical Center with clinical interest and expertise in women's health, individuals experiencing homelessness, and chronic disease management. She is committed to serving vulnerable populations and works per diem at Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program; Andrea has also conducted international healthcare work in Haiti. She is a term lecturer and preceptor for nurse practitioner students at the MGH Institute of Health Professions (MGH IHP). Andrea received her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2011 and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2018, both from the MGH IHP. She is board certified in addictions nursing through the Addictions Nursing Certification Board.
Participants will be able to:
Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (DPH/BSAS), Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS), and Boston Medical Center Office Based Addiction Treatment and Technical Assistance (BMC OBAT TTA).
American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) is the DATA 2000 sponsor for this waiver training.
